Join us for a Video Game Tournament, free food and door prizes, a Community Fair, and a variety of presentations on topics such as life after high school, healthy relationships, pregnancy& HIV/STD prevention.

Y.E.S. is an opportunity for 8th-12th graders to plan for a successful life by learning the right tools to make the right decisions.

YOUTH SUMMIT FOR TEENS TO BE HELD DURING SPRING BREAK AT UGA TATE CENTER

ATHENS, GA – A multi-agency collaborative teen summit, Youth Empowering Success (Y.E.S.), will be held on Wednesday, March 16, 2011 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the University of Georgia’s Tate Student Center. This one-day summit to promote healthy decision-making and success in life is open to youth in grades 8 through 12 and is sponsored by the OneAthens Teen Pregnancy Prevention Task Force, Community Connection, and Teen Matters.

Topics covered will range from prevention of pregnancy, HIV and other sexually transmitted infections to self-esteem, teen dating violence, safe teen driving and life after high school. This event will also provide an opportunity for area youth to connect with local groups, to compete in a video game tournament and to enjoy free food and door prizes. Transportation will be provided to those who request it.

Organizations sponsoring a session or booth at Y.E.S. include: Community Connection, AIDS Athens, Teen Matters, Goodwill, I Art Athens, Project Safe, Whatever It Takes, GA Institute for Cosmetology, UGA Psychology Clinic, GA Department of Juvenile Justice, The Cottage, Gainesville State College, Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services, GA College Advising Corps, UGA Future Health Promoters, Star Quality Girls, UGA TRIO Program, and Advantage Behavioral Health Systems.

Students can register online at teenhealthsummit.org. The deadline for early registration for Y.E.S. is Monday, February 28 at 5:00 p.m. Students may also register up to and on the day of the summit, but there are limited spaces available in the video game tournament and early registration is recommended for those needing transportation. Registration forms are also available at the Teen Matters clinics at 168 Rocksprings Court or 1275 Cedar Shoals Drive, Athens.
